Is there a reason to keep prefixing git tags for version releases with `v`? I picked up the habit from GitHub's suggestion when making releases, but I don't quite see the benefit beyond a common prefix which has never really helped me in any way.

@brettcannon I would argue that this makes it easier to filter out the tags used for versioning and tags used for other purposes.

@basnijholt I thought of that, but I realized I couldn't remember the last time I needed to do that and anything starting with a number would be a release.
