The point that angers white people so much when I talk about that culture is that they know I’m right.
White Americans know white Americans aren’t shit.
We’re just not supposed to talk about it because white folks don’t like being reminded of it, even though they never let us forget we are Black and they hate us.
We don’t have free healthcare in the US because white people vote against it.
We don’t have free education because white people vote against it.
Women can’t have control over their own bodies because white people vote for sexist public officials who hate women.
Trans people can’t walk around and not have to worry about being assaulted by some random fool because white people for queer phobic laws and policies.
Black folks are still being murdered by out-of-control law enforcement because white people vote for officials who give them billions to continue terrorizing our neighborhoods.
People can get as upset about the facts as they want, but the US is in the condition it is in because white Americans have used their political power to make the country worse for everyone they don’t like, even when it harms themselves.
This is not a debatable point. This is not hearsay or opinion.
It’s simply the reality of American culture.
@are0h What about lobbying, gerrymandering and the electoral system? I'm afraid voters don't have as much power in this country as we'd like. There are voters but also a lot of other (wealthy) forces at play here.
@are0h You are right that there's a lot of white people who would go as far as to hurt themselves as long as it hurts Black and brown people even more. I still don't think it's the majority, though. It matters to me that the majority of white people are not this way. A large portion, yes, but not the majority.
@are0h do you mean the history where the majority vote did not actually determine the election?
@guenp That and the majority of white Americans who vote not voting for any liberal or progressive candidates for decades.
Conservative candidates are still in play because most white people who vote, vote for them.
That’s the sole reason Trump is still a candidate despite his background.
The white vote has largely been decided by bigots since forever.
@guenp The history of US policy does not agree.
